Each department plays a very important role for the membership of our chapter. There is not a single department
aboard which could exist without the others, so they are equally important. The same can also be said about the
members. All members, no matter what their job is, depend on each other to make the chapter the best
experience possible for everyone else. The Sinclair definitely depends on team work to get the job done.
Command:
The Command Department oversees all departments aboard the Sinclair. They receive the monthly reports from
all department heads, submit the chapter's monthly report to STARFLEET, coordinate activities hosted by the
chapter, and act as representatives to STARFLEET and Region 13. The CO (Chapter President) and XO
(Chapter Vice-President) serve under this department as well as the Administrative Assistant to the CO/XO.
Operations:
The operations department has many different responsibilities. Their primary duty is record keeping. They also
record meeting minutes, post job openings, set up and coordinate chapter activities, and manage the chapter's
resources. The Operations Manager (Chapter Secretary) serves in this department.
Security:
The Security Department aboard the Sinclair is much different than that of other STARFLEET Chapters. Our
Security Department doesn't do any physical security duties at all (the Marines are charged with the duty of
physical security). They're more like an 'intelligence and investigation' department. They investigate security
breaches, prepare reports on security status, and impliment/maintain security procedures. The Chief of Security
is also the Chapter Treasurer.
Engineering:
The Engineering Department has many different obligations. Maintenance of the website, email addresses,
member portals, and other chapter technologies, are handled by this department. They also setup computers
and networks as needed at functions. The Chief Engineer is also a trustee for the chapter.
Medical:
The Medical Department coordinates STARFLEET Academy exams. Members who would like to take exams can
talk to the Chief Medical Officer to see what exams are available from the academy. They'll also submit your
answers, or direct who you submit them to, once you've completed with the course exam. The Chief Medical
Officer is also a trustee for the chapter.
Science:
The Science Department primarily oversees the Junior Academy for the children of the chapter. They coordinate
learning away teams, provide them with information for the cadets, and perform other similar duties. They also
coordinate all science-type projects undertaken by the chapter. The Executive Officer oversees this department.
Marine:
The Marines who serve aboard the Sinclair maintain order and protect the crew from hostile forces. They are our
physical security force aboard ship and on away-teams. The Marines go through extensive training and have
their own STARFLEET Marine Corps Academy courses. The Marine Officer In Charge is a trustee for the chapter.
Auxiliary Services:
This is the 'holding department' for new members and members who haven't decided which department to join yet.
They frequently scrub the head (restroom), take out the trash, and wash dishes in the galley (kitchen). You don't
want to stay in this department very long, so make sure you start talking to department heads very quickly after
beaming aboard! The Operations Manager oversees this department.
